Moved to Tears on Good Friday

If you are like me, and are going to watch Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ today, I'd like to offer a suggestion.

During the extremely-difficult-to-watch 10 minutes where Jesus is scourged at the pillar, don't get mad at the giddy Roman soldiers. Likewise, don't direct your anger at the pompous chief priests.

Instead, every time Jesus is whipped, say to yourself "I am doing this to Him. This is because of my sins."

The scene is hard enough to watch in its entirety.

It's almost impossible to watch knowing we are the ones doing it to Him.

If you are like me, it will move you to tears.

Have a Blessed Good Friday.

P.S. If you do not own the movie, but would like to watch the scene I am talking about, I found it on YouTube.
(Unfortunately with Christ's name misspelled...) See below.

I watch the Passion of the Christ every Good Friday too. The scourging scene is very difficult to watch.

God bless

Michael,
I actually watched the movie last night~ sort of as my own Holy Thursday vigil with our Lord. As I watched this scene you mention, and look at Christ's scourged body, I had that precise thought - my sins did this. When the men carrying out this horrible deed switch to the more torturous instruments, I had the thought that the wounds inflicted by these are my gravest sins.
You are right- thinking in this way it is hard to get angry at them.
A blessed Good Friday to you.

Unbelievably hard to watch. Just unbelievable. Just like the soldiers found it so hard to stop whipping Christ, we find it so hard to stop our patterns of sin.

God help us all.

My dad gave me this movie a few years back, it is heart-wrenching to watch. It makes me cry, too.

God bless you, Michael, and may your day be filled with joy tomorrow :)

I do own the movie. It is very disturbing but something I feel I need to watch. When I think of how Jesus suffered my heart breaks.
