Yeah, What He Said

I came across this prayer by Thomas Merton the other day.

It so fully captures what I am thinking half the time (and should be thinking the other half), that I won't clutter it up with any additional commentary. Its quite beautiful on its own.

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you and I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.

And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road although I may know nothing about it.

Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death, I will not fear, for you are ever with me and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

God Bless.

Michael,
I found this prayer sometime ago and loved it. For me too it sums up how I am feeling most times, but sometimes I forget to "finish the prayer"- I know God will lead me where He wants if I trust Him.
Thanks for posting it- I haven't prayed it in awhile.
God Bless!

Most of us feel lost and we don't know where we're going or how to get there at one time or another in our lives.

And what's more, we don't know whether our Faith is strong enough and our beliefs are what they should be. I'd never have thought that a mustard seed could be so big.

I hope He appreciates our difficulties when He comes to judge us.

God bless.

Michael, you have no idea how appropriate that prayer is for me to hear today! Thank you for posting it.

(BTW, Blest Atheis has been replaced by 100th Lamb [www.emahlou.blogspot.com]. I explain why on the site, but the posts are the same and will continue.)

Karinann, DG, Carol, Elizabeth, and HC - you are welcome!

Victor - I hope so to. And I think you are onto a catchy post/song title there ... "Who knew a mustard seed could be so big?"

Anne - Trust is a big part of it, you are right! And thank you for tagging me. I will answer in an upcoming post!
