Overheard at Mass

We had a visiting priest this weekend and to kick off his homily he threw this one at us:

"Here is my question for all of you here today.  If we are celebrating the Mass  ... and what Jesus did for us ... and are supposed to light up the world as his disciples ... then why does everyone look so miserable right now?"

(A quick glance around the Church was all I needed to realize the accuracy of what he had just said.)

God Bless you - and may you light up the world better than we did on Sunday!

That's very true Michael. Every Sunday at Mass I notice that everyone here is miserable. Perhaps the priest's announcement of a second collection has something to do with it. We've had too many second collections lately.

... And they don't accept Credit Cards either ... yet!!!

God bless.

Michael, I have noticed how sad people look too. Part of me wonders if it stems from the burden of living in a world that is so far from God. We are supposed to be joyful but honestly I see very little of that joy.

Thanks for the food for thought.

Victor - Funny! We, too, have second collections every other week it seems.

Mary - Good point. I'd actually feel better if I knew it was sadness because they felt this world was far from God vs being upset they have to sit through an hour with Him!

God Bless you both!
